Space/Science » in reply to TCS: "Overhyping hypersonics?"

Not only that!...I think the idea of Pacific-crossing hypersonic passenger-jets has been overhyped too.

I admire Ronald Reagan.
But I think he was wrong to believe there were commercial
possibilities for a Mach 5-10 hypersonic passenger-jet taking businessmen/women from LA International Airport to Tokyo
in less than 3 hours.

Why would a businessman/woman want to pay extra airfare
for the privelage of going from the west-coast of North America
to Asia/Australia at Mach 5 , or even Mach-10, to attend a
"business conference" when he or she could "attend" the same
conference at "the speed of light"?

Today, thanks to the technology that I'm using RIGHT NOW,
"the internet", it's possible for a business man or woman to attend
a "business conference" halfway around the world at the "speed of light"...

"Cyber-conferencing" using the internet is now possible, and can connect different business associates, thousands of miles apart,
at the speed of light.
With broadband, they can even have streaming video images of each other, thousands of miles apart.
And this could probably be done with a few clicks of a mouse.

So much for the need for hypersonic passenger-jets to send
them to such conferences maybe 10,000 miles away.
