The Y-12A was initially devolped to be an interceptor. Of course now with the reduced threat of Soviet bombers coming over, a need for an interceptor would be greatly dimished.

Of course with military spending being what it was under Clinton, I'm sure if Aurora ever existed it's grounded now.
