I have confidence that our miltary can and will get the bad guys in Afghanistan and Iraq. But Afghanistan will probably take longer to restore lasting security than Iraq.

Bin Laden is hiding and it's very difficult to find someone if they want to hide in the mountains around Afghanistan. Bin Laden is about effective hiding in mountains as he would be in some prison. There is no good reason why we need to be in a hurry to catch this guy. It might take 5 to 10 years to get Bin Laden. Or he could already be dead or die before we get him. If we could capture Bin Laden tomorrow, we would probably extend the amount of years this guy is going to live, and make his life better. Why do him the favor- I would be just as happy to let him rot in the mountains.

Saddam was important to capture because the Iraqis were haunted with the thought of him returning to power. So the quickier the better. The war in Iraq actually diminshes Bin Laden- Iraq is the focus with Bin Laden remembered, but not very significant. If all the focus was on Bin Laden, he would grow into this unbelievably huge legend. He wouldn't have to do anything but merely avoid being found. You see, it's really nothing to do with Bin Laden. It's that Bin Laden is attacking us. We are what's actually significant, and if we spend all our time trying to get him this makes him important. The way to solve the problem with terrorism is not to search for terrorists who have fled into the mountains. The way to solve the problem is solve the conditions that allow terrorism to prosper. Getting rid of Saddem- is one good step in this direction, making Iraq into a stable and friendly state to countries in the region is even more significant. We focus on getting rid of terrorists if they are interferring with a country progressing towards a more stable and prosperous nation. The main problem in Afghanistan is not Bin Laden, the main problem is drugs and drug money. And if we follow this dirty money we will also probably find Bin Laden- if he is still alive.
