I have no war plans on my desk
Perhaps they were in his brief case. :) hey I'm kidding. It was a stupid thing to say in a speech, but it certainly wasn't the first stupid thing he's said. Politicians lie. Bush isn't exempt.
I don't see what the big deal about having warplans drawn up is. I hope he's got warplans drawn up fo North Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Yemen, and a host of other nations. I also hope they aren't just stuck in a closet somewhere, but that they are constantly being updated and refined. Notice I'm not saying I hope they see the light of day. I hope they don't. We had plans for invading the USSR all through the Cold War. They were ready to go at a moments notice. Shouldn't we be ready to strike terrorism if the need arises in any of the suspected countries. It does nothing to damage the debate as to whether or not we should actually use the plans. The better planned the invasion the less dead US soldiers and civilians there will be.
One caveat. If the plans said we will attack on such and such a day regradless of the outcome of debate, than those warplans are damning. I hardly think that was the case, but if it were proven to be true than I won't be voting for Bush in November. I already know I won't be voting fo Kerry, so perhaps I'll stay home and catch a movie instead.
