"The US Administration has faulted in many ways, not just by avoiding a UN veto.
It has made completely wrong WMD claims."
Saddam had and was continuing to not comply with it's cease fire agreement, that was the claim. And no rational party has disputed this. The UN inspectors never said the Saddam was fully cooperating with inspectors- this alone is a violation of cease fire agreement. Saddam had kicked out UN inspectors- that's a violation. Saddam had not fully declared his WMD programs- that's another violation. And the list goes on. The world had allowed Saddam over 12 years to comply with cease fire agreement- and he failed to comply. 12 years is more than a reasonable period for any state which was willing to follow this agreement to follow it. [SA did it in 2 years.]
"It has invaded a sovereign country, UNPROVOKED."
Bullshit. Saddam failed to follow it's cease fire agreement. Iraq's initial provocation was the invasion of Kuwait in '91, it's failure to fully cooperate with UN inspectors regarding WMD violated the cease fire agreement. Violating a cease fire agreement certainly qualifies as provocation.
What you fail to understand is the Gulf I war was not over until Saddam complied with this cease fire agreements. And this is not just something America "thinks", it was specified in UN security council resolutions- to use whatever force necessary to bring a resolution to this conflict.
War is war, "little wars" are not any different in terms legality than huge big "mother of all wars". Sanctions is war. Bombing is war. Attempting to assassinate Bush senior is an act of war, targeting aircraft is act of war. We were constantly and endlessly provoked by this stupid idiot.
Saddam invaded Kuwait. This was illegal; he committed war crimes. And Saddam will *now* will be tried for them.
