To combat terror, we all require training in terror.

* Many will strive to understand the enemy, so they may approach him on a sane level.

* Some will attempt to reach the enemy's level in order to properly defeat him.

* A very few will choose to meet the enemy on an even playing field, and the difference between the two will become indistinguishable.

What these are, though, are the so-called "dogs of war", and they have always been with us. We don't like them. We keep them locked away from sight and hearing during times of peace, and we like to forget we have them. We hate them, and don’t mind letting the rest of the world know this. But we still need them, though we’ll refuse to ever admit this simple fact. What we require, though, is that our much-needed dogs be controlled -- held in check. This is how we win the wars.

In recent months, it would appear that the chains of command failed in certain remote quarters of the war. Many of the dogs involved are now facing very serious charges.

This, my friend, is called America.

The enemy we went to fight would have cheered these same dogs to far more heinous levels, and would have them saluted as national heroes.
