Science Fiction » in reply to Sci-fi dreaming

I've had a number.

The most memorable was one in which I was part of several dozen crew members visiting another sentient planet. I was with a dozen or more of them in a enormous structure. It was situated on a cliff that overlooked a canyon a hundred times broader than the Grand Canyon and had fasciniating geological discrepancies from Earth. Trees could grow upside down and much of the flora and fauna which was growing out of cliffs that look like they would be barren on Earth. A small river of water could flow up through the cliffs and then plateau in mid-air. It was bizarre. Gravity was clearly variable or absent in some spots - not steady and even as it is on Earth.

The people of the planet were gathering in this huge edifice and they didn't quite look human. They were various shades of light blue and the females were sort of violet hued. There heads were slightly larger and there bodies were wider. Both were about 7 feet tall and had an extra appendage emerging from their backs. It was like another arm in size but it served some other purpose and had no hand.

The people were friendly but there was some secret. Some other ship had visited the planet before and never returned. Suddenly, I realize with horror what that appendage is attached to the spine. It is some sort of nerve stem and the people were sent signals which controlled them, like a hive mind. At the same time, some of our crew were suddenly blank-faced and I knew that this broadcasting had begun and was trying to overwrite the fundamental frequency of our cerebral cortex and take over our minds.

I fled with about four others who were still lucid and we raced to return to our ship and someplace safe. I woke up before I knew if we got there.

The scenery of the dream was absolutely spectacular. I had paused to look out the window and thought to myself how different it was from the Earth and yet how it did share certain basic elements.
