You gotta wonder about a country that declares war on another... there's something wrong there. That's what Iraq did to Kuwait! No honest person in the world would say that invading Afghanistan wasn't justified. But Iraq?
Some said it was an oil war. But Iraq was already producing oil at close to its maximum capacity before the war, via the oil-for-food program.
Some said Saddam Hussein was providing life insurance to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers. Likely to be true, but did it justify the invasion?
Some said Saddam Hussein was producing weapons of mass destruction to use against Israel and other enemies of Iraq.
Some even suggested that Saddam Hussein had ties with terrorists such as Al Quaida.
Some said simply that major change was needed: that the no-fly zones, the oil-for-food program, the funding of suicide bombers, the constant prodding of OPEC members by Iraq to cut off oil to the west, the oppression of shiites and kurds, the weapons of mass destruction... all that had to stop. Regime change was highly desired by the U.S. to facilitate this change.
But what a mess! After huge loss of life on both sides:
-- Al-Sistani refused to endorse a constitution guaranteeing civil liberties.
-- An organization linked to Al-Quaida set off bombs in Spain, killing civilians and causing the Spanish government to withdrawl all troops from Iraq.
-- Al-Sadr has defected, and his followers are now fighting a bloody battle against the US and British forces.
-- Sunni rebels are hanging the corpses of allied soldiers from bridges.
-- Iraqi prisoners held without trials are being sexually assaulted by American soldiers.
-- Al-Quaida is present in Iraq, beheading at least one civilian.
-- An islamic theocracy threatens to replace a dictatorship.
Like I said. You gotta wonder about a country that declares war on another... there's something wrong there. So what's wrong with the United States?
-- Bush's father is a former president.
-- Bush's brother is governor of Florida.
-- Bush barely won the last election, in fact did not get the popular vote.
-- The US is in a recession, and doesn't seem to have recovered.
-- Cheney's energy policies outraged environmentalists, some of the most irrational people.
-- Rumsfeld seems eager to go to war.
-- Bush wants to re-start the Apollo program, beat the Chinese to the Moon, and then Mars.
-- Bush wants to create a free-trade zone of the Americas, which is not very popular with the Americas.
-- Bush keeps spending more money.
I think Bush is getting alot of bad advice. That's what I think.
