To assume we "failed miserably," at least insofar as keeping WMD out of the hands of terrorists, we would have to assume that:
A: There were weapons of mass destruction hidden in Iraq, or shipped to Syria, which may now fall into the hands of terrorists. This is going to be tough for a lot of people
Yet, assuming there were, you still can't admit to the failure* of one of the (if not the) prime motivators for the whole invasion - keeping em out of terrorists hands, so they are not a threat to us/US.
And,
B: That the world would somehow be safer with Saddam and his sons in charge of Iraq for the next few decades, a regime with a proven lust for weapons of mass destruction, and a past proven history of developing them under the nose of the United Nations. And that he would never, ever supply these to terror movements.
Isn't that why we went to war?
You have been watching Iran pull the U.N. through knotholes, haven't you?
And this is germane ........?
*or at least you're pussy-footing around the whole issue.
