The "shy immigrant" factor doesn't seem to bother the hundreds to thousands of Latinos, including many illegals, who turn out for demonstrations around my neck of the woods. They march with Mexican flags.
The fact is that moderate Muslims (which I have NEVER characterized as "evil at heart"), who are hesitant to display pro-American and anti-terror opinions, are afraid of their less-moderate brethren, not of anti-Muslim Americans. Particularly overseas, a moderate Muslim who expresses his opinions tends to have a short life span. This is a major reason you don't have a lot of moderate Palestinians speaking out.
As I pointed out--more than once--the idea of average Americans, or even rednecks, expressing hostility toward Muslims who are displaying pro-American and anti-terrorist opinions doesn't even make sense, except maybe in the minds of those liberals who are convinced that all white Americans are racist.
