Being a strong believer in logos, I always object to "don't care what you call it, I know it when I see it" as an arguement. Words are needed to make concepts clear and allow us to understand them. Once we can understand a concept, we can begin to modify and refine it.
I strongly have faith that change is possible and can be brought for the benefit for those effected by that change.
Back when communism was an argued concept, I had problems with the mantra of "Dialetic Materialism." My view of this concept was as a truncated failure to understand the concepts of Hegelian synthesis. When I would argue this position, I was usually met with "you just don't understand." To me that was not adequate---today the position is "whatever!"
Tom is satisfied with, "I don't care what you call it."
