Speaking of saving energy
I read in a science magazine last year about how much energy is used transporting food all over the place. They suggested that food could be grown near most big cities so that it would not have to be imported so far.
It is wasteful to export something like rice across the country, or globe, meanwhile the farmer can go to the store and find rice that has been ship from all parts of the globe.
