Sometimes it gets tiring watching our neo-cons trying to put a square peg in those nicely rounded holes.
When I say "Liberal" it is in full recognition this is a liberal nation, founded on liberal principles, based on the European liberal enlightenment. We are all "liberals" and the only relevant question is what direction our individual liberalism tends to lead us.
Even our so-called, mis-called "conservatives" must recognize there is no wide spread desire to return to a time when the nation took little notice of the health problems of the poor and elderly, ignored endangered species, threw people out of work because they held "un-American" views. Most "conservatives" don't see racial segregation as an acceptable way of life and white-only restaurants, schools, hotels are only an ugly memory.
The laws and attitudes that accomplished all of this are derived from a philosophy that these self professed neo-cons hold in such low esteem.
Ain't this strange?
