I guess you've never heard of contingency planning

A lot of people forget that on 9-11, New York cancelled an ongoing election that was taking place that day. There is no provision in federal law to do such a thing should there be a large scale attack on election day. Is it unreasonable to consider possible alternatives ahead of time, or should they just wing it if it happens?

Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

Failure to plan is planning to fail.

Maybe you believe in going through just taking things as they come. However, if, as most are predicting, this is another close election, what happens if several polling places are taken out? Imagine the hue and cry about votes not being counted, perhaps because they're tainted by anthrax or some other problem.
