fine line between cutting and running and simply playing the cards

Tom, we're already cutting and running. It's just slow and plodding. I have no clue how Kerry can make any more sense of the mess we're in in Iraq than Bush and his cronies. I'm certain of one thing. My gut feeling tells me we've already failed in Iraq no matter what we do as I've detailed in another of your posts today.

The one thing I'm hoping from Kerry is to stop our bleeding within. This nation is bitterly divided and needs someone a bit more calm and able to see things in not just black and white. Kerry wouldn't have been my first choice but I really believe he has more of the traits required for that than GWB. We also need to reestablish our credibility and image worldwide. Our team has lost its fans, something that has kept us relatively safe for years, and the manager must go. To the world now we seem inept, petty, conceited and bumbling. I'm not sure Kerry will use the UN to improve relations. I think he'd be better at the one on one interaction with world leaders. Whether you like it or not, history has shown that isolationism simply doesn't work. We have to get along with at least the majority of other kids in the playground. At this point they won't even invite us into the circle for our marbles.
