Well, after the usual dozen lines of Bush-slamming, which seems to be the entire extent of the Democratic platform this year, we finally dribble in at the end with this as the "alternative:"
John Kerry is a statesman and is schooled in international affairs. Unlike Bush, he'll be able to reengage the U.N. and our allies to make the reconstruction of Iraq a true international effort rather than an American burden. At this point, few, if any of our allies will take George Bush seriously enough to truly help us succeed.
"Reengage the U.N. and our allies?" Wow. I'm sure that line would get applause from the smooth-brained kids who show up at Kerry's rallies. But what does it actually mean?
"Reengage?" More fog. Again, what will Kerry actually do? What will he offer France to dump money and lives on Iraq? What are the chances France will tell him to go to hell too? What will bring Russian troops in? How many billions will Russia put into the effort? What will Kerry offer them for this? Oh, wait. Russia is broke. Okay, how many billions will Germany add? And why?
What asses is Kerry going to have to kiss to get the "international support" which seems to be the sole measure of virtue in warcraft that the Left seems to recognize. Apparently, it's okay to bomb other countries if you have enough different flags on your planes.
What will actually change if Kerry is elected that will fix everything? For heaven's sake, stop regurgitating pap and THINK. "Reengage." Good God.
And if some European nations are letting Iraq struggle along not because they can't help out, but simply because they would rather see the Middle East go to hell than give an inch to Bush, well then as allies, who the hell needs them?
Anybody remember that the holy U.N. is under investigation for looting Iraq? I can make a liberal spit blood by just mentioning Halliburton, but the actual proved skimming of Iraqi oil money by the United Nations (and several of the nations that opposed the war) makes no impression at all.
