Whoa there guy, she used the term "fundamentalist Christian". I'm sure Ronstadt is fully aware that 80% of any audience in this country are labeled as simply "Christian". To people that don't fall into the fundamentalist label it can seem as alien as the term "pedophile" or "Nazi". The term evokes to me images of mothers drowning their children because of voices of God in their head, hundreds of people drinking poison Koolaid or parents withholding insulin from their diabetic child. Fundamentalists are the ones that read the outrageous, violent and hateful passages of the Old Testament or Koran and somehow figure that life on Earth is all about vengence and killing.
Just as it's a travesty that the majority of the Muslims all over the world don't recoil in disgust from their fundamentalist counterparts, so is it just as much a tragedy that mainstream Christians put up with having the hateful minority of the extremist Christians speak for them.
Tom, if that statement Ronstadt read, especially the part about Christians, caused a defensive reaction in you, then maybe it's not Ronstadt that should be introspective here.
