In point of fact, the US manufacturing sector has been trashed by the Republicans in their effort to break the unions.
The way the Republicans got away with this was by "playing the race card", in other words preserving white suburbs and thus preserving high housing prices.
Since all that is left of manufacturing is the military industrial complex, what the US needs is enemies, and a good way to get a billion of them is by supporting further Israeli land grabs.
The whole miserable mess is kept going by printing paper money while running huge trade deficits in real goods.
As for the Saudis, what the people there would like is for their government to stop selling oil to the US entirely, until the US changes its toleration of Israeli expansion. The Saudi government concludes that they have better effect continuing oil sales.
Entrenched interests such as automotive manufacturing, trucking, and air use their clout to stop meaningful reductions in oil dependence.
The media is so dominated by Israeli interests that there is no real news, and discussion is impossible.
For example, no one talks about why Dean actually lost the nomination, and the role of Israeli money in it.
In the meantime, anti-Jewish sentiment grows.
