re: Hybrid cars
My hunch is that pure electric cars will be powered by fuel cells instead of conventional batteries. They might use some batteries for regenerative braking and acceleration (and hyrid batteries do this very well), but depending on ordinary batteries will always have too many limitations to make practical vehicles for most people.
If I'm right, today's hybrids will be an iterim technology between conventional cars and fuel cell vehicles. This will likely be the case for some 10-20 years. I suspect hydrocarbon or alcohol powered fuel cells will be the first in widespread use due to infrastructure issues. Right now, it seems pure hydrogen fuel cell cars are quite a few years off.
