how do pranksters stomping wheat manage to...

- explode the cell walls - apply alcohol (or one of many other solvents)?, can also do some interesting things to cells by subjecting them to explosive overpressure - cherry bomb?

- create blown-out nodes - really looks like the plant trying to heal up a physical break or bend to me,

- magnetize the soil - assuming the soil has a lot of iron in it, wave a magnet over it? else, buried meteorites, or wrecked, Nazi aviation hardware?
