John Kerry served his nation in the field of battle, George Bush didn't.
This is as relevant as saying "Richard Nixon was elected President for two terms" when discussing Watergate. And you might want to rephrase that a bit, unless it's your contention that Guardsmen or military personnel who don't see combat aren't really serving the nation. Larry, Tony, and others are going over that elsewhere. ;)
God, where were all you medal freaks when Dole was running against a draft-dodger?
Nobody is saying Kerry wasn't in Vietnam, or that he never served under combat. The issue is whether or not he's lying about details, and there are a LOT of problems there. Whatever you might say about Bush's service, he didn't say he was flying to places he never went.
This is a character issue, and since Kerry has put all his character eggs in the Vietnam basket, this is where it's being focused. Frankly, there are a lot more recent things that speak to this.
