"having won two wars"

Declaring the end of hostilities is not winning.

The other side in Afghanistan is coming back. There were signs of this in 2002, in small articles, to one of which I posted a link way back then, but it was blown off here. (Wish I had bookmarked it now.)

In Iraq, we have two separate groups fighting their liberators. One of those is composed of the remnants of those who were "defeated". Maybe not so much, eh?

Under the definition of "won" used here, Germany won the 1940 invasion of France because the armies of the Allies were driven out. They had won the battle, but later lost the war. Our current administration needs to remember, as they declare victory, what the Germans knew then: it's not won because it's not over yet.
