Since about 1970, the US has spent a lot of money directly and indirectly to improve the environment. I remember how polluted things were in the 1960s. Overall, things are a lot better now. Despite more cars being driven more miles, auto emissions are down because the pollution controls (catalytic converts, etc) allow a new car to emit about 1/400th of the pollutants of a 1960s vintage car. Companies are no longer free to dump wastes into rivers or whereever else they want. In many ways, things are much better. Not perfect by any means, but better.
Future controls have to follow a cost/benefit analysis. Not everything possible is worth doing. Some things have a very high price with a very marginal benefit. The money spent on that could be better used in other areas where the benefit is higher.
Current Events » in reply to Most Republicans would love to find workable solutions to the environmental and other problems. Yes, if they did not coost any money.
Everything has to be subject to a cost/benefit analysis
