Intelligence is a great benefit to acheiving goals, but goals are often set by emotion.

A vision statement that appeals to most people would be a good idea to make it clear what the overall aim of the party is. Something better than the existing partyies':

Republican's: Make the rich richer and let everyone else feed off the trickle down.

Democrats: From each according to his abilities to each according to his needs. (Wonder how many will fall for that) ;-)
