I'm glad that Bush is doing well in the polls (I will vote for Bush). However IMHO Bush was locked in as an underdog until the SwiftVets came along. Too many people were stuck in the mindset of "anyone but Bush". However the SwiftVets forced people to reexamine that mindset and realize that Kerry was significantly worse than Bush. The purpose of the forged memos was to deceive the voting public into thinking that Bush was as big a scumbag as Kerry. This would have neutralized the effect of the SwiftVets.
