Amendment 36 could add a wrinkle to electoral college calculations.
Any opinions about Amendment 36 here in Colorado? Here's an article from the Denver Post about it: Dividing Colorado
Proponents say the plan will more accurately reflect voter wishes than the current system, in which the candidate who wins the greatest number of popular votes wins all nine of Colorado's electoral votes. In 1992, for example, Bill Clinton pulled in just 40 percent of Colorado's popular vote, but earned 100 percent of the state's Electoral College votes.
Opponents consider Amendment 36 to be an election-year ploy by Democrats to siphon votes from Bush. Gov. Bill Owens is mounting an aggressive campaign to defeat it and vows to challenge it in court if it disrupts the presidential election, or at least if it disrupts Bush's chances.
I've got mixed feelings about this and I would love to read HZ views to help me make up my mind.
