People in the small states feel they're being blown off by the candidates, while conversely people in the megastates like California have to deal with dilution of our votes by the electoral college system (on top of winner-takes-all diluation!). The floor of two Senators means that a vote in a small state is worth more than a vote in a large state.
Besides, I don't think size determines which states get attention from the Presidential campaigns. I think it's strictly determined by which states the polls show are in play and which ones are solid. Of course, we come round full circle, since we wouldn't even be talking about states that are locked up already if it weren't for the damn Electoral College and winner-take-all rules.
The EC definitely needs reform if not elimination. It's an ugly little kludge atop an otherwise elegant system, and the history of election problems it's caused only confirms my aesthetic judgment that a part of the system that malformed is a badly-designed part of the system and needs fixin.
