Though I agree that there must be some people injured or killed who are combatants, if no one actually knows who's in a house, then no one actually knows what's going on in there.

Also, the same group that kills noncombatants, even if it's by accident, can't expect to win the hearts and minds of their survivors. What, turn over my good friend Ali's grandson whom I have known all his life, who is fighting the foreigners who killed those two babies down the street with their bombs? I have never actually seen him fight Americans, and so what if he does? This is his home, not theirs. So I call him a civilian, the grandson of my friend, for that is what he is.

And so it goes on and on.
