Here in Houston

A monument was built to honor a man who devoted his life to serving street people, giving them a place to stay, health care and work.
He claimed throughout his life that the Bible was the real tool he used in serving many thousands of destitute men.
After he died, a monument was built with private money to honor him. the County allowed the monument to be pleaced on a corner of the courthouse property that used to be over run by the street people he served. The monument was placed their over 20 years ago.
The monument happens to have a symbol of the tool this man claimed to have relied on for his work: a bible.
This year, someone got the ACLU to sue on his behalf because this monument was so offensive to his sensibilities. Tehre is no reasonable way to describe the suit except as censorship by an extreme Christian-hater. There is nothing in this monument forcing anyone to support any religious idea at all. There is only a free expression, privately funded, that is being censored by a neo-fascist twit.
How many books in our public classrooms discuss openly the religious ideas of our founding fathers or even the pilgrims?
Please do not tell me that only religious expression was to be censored in the public square. The constitution has been turned on its head by a tiny group of radical extremists who rely totally on the courts to impose their agenda. And I promise you this: the crappy, horrible law that is McCain-Feingold comes DIRECTLY from this type of imposed censorship, and its degrading effect on our respect for free expression.
If we don't hang tough on our freedom, we will lose it, and not to Ashcroft-as-bogeyman.
