I used Outlook Express's filter, which is okay as far as it goes. Something with a bit more intelligence would work a lot better, i.e. something that recognizes "Via.gra" as "Viagra." Would be nice to have a function that filters out anything with an imbedded picture in it, too.
Almost all spam has a "remove me" click on it. Don't trust that at all.
One legal way to deal with such things might be to have severe penalties for spammers who either do not actually use their "remove" options to remove you from a list, or who use the remove options to generate more spam. Might be a start.
I used to get a lot of fax spam, each with a "remove me" phone number on it (this was before the recent regulations on such things). They actually seemed to work, and the spam went away.
