re: Bush and nuclear proliferation

In contrast to President Bush, Sen. John Kerry has repeatedly claimed that he would do a better job in rallying, and pressuring, other countries to a genuine coalition for a worldwide effort to safeguard all fissile material.

A great deal of Kerry's foreign policy rests on the faith that if he is elected, somehow all the nations of the world who think we suck, and thought so long before Bush was elected, are going to snap to attention and do our bidding.

There has not been a single piece of evidence to this effect, and a lot of evidence against it. Yet it seems impossible to pry this myth loose.

Kerry has never been effectively able to answer the single question, "How?"

As far as the Bush administration dropping the ball on proliferation:

- Bush's policies broke open the Pakistan nuke ring, allied Pakistan with us rather than against us, and disarmed Libya.

- Pakistan and North Korea's proliferation activities preceded the Bush administration, and probably even Clinton's.

- The United Nations has failed miserably to disarm Iran, despite using all the Certified and Approved diplomatic tactics that mature and wise people use when dealing with rogue regimes.

- There is an intensive non-proliferation program under way including the Proliferation Security Initiative. The latter was instrumental in exposing the Pakistan nuclear ring and convincing Libya to disarm.
