Republicans keeps forgetting that 9/11 happened on George Bush's watch. It happened after warnings about Al Qaeda were passed on to his administration. It happened while the Palestinian/Israeli conflict was totally ignored during George Bush's first nine months in office and remains ignored today.

The root of Islamic terrorism today lies in our failure craft a permanent solution to the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. This is the thorn that keeps the wound from healing. While the war in Afghanistan is fully justified, George Bush's reckless misadventure in Iraq has only opened more wounds and kept us from the healing the one from which this conflict has its origins. It was a bad idea and it has poorly served the interests of the American people in securing peace and stability in the Middle East.
