Moonbat asteroid base

It has been clear to all but the most demented* that a successful asteroid and comet search program need not, no SHOULD NOT, be based on the lunar surface. From a space enthusiast perspective I'd love it if the moon were the solution. We'd have a rationale to drive immediate action. But this is not the case. Mark, others and myself have posted numerous unrebutted critiques of a moon base compared to Earth or even Lagrange based searches. Dust, gravity, motion, temprature excursions, ad nauseum.

* This may be hyperbole as I am ignorant of Mr Smythe's position on this issue
