re: Just a question

The churches I have gone to most of my life have not been fundamentalist in the sense of believing the Book of Revelation to be an actual blueprint for the end of the world, or believing that we are in the end times. I have never read any of the "Left Behind" books, but am aware of the liturgy that declares we are in the "final generation," including the major "signs" and other things. My church teaches that nobody can know the end time, and that in the book of Mark, even Jesus says he doesn't know. Almost by definition, anyone claiming to have inside knowledge of when the balloon goes up is probably suspect.

As for myself, I'm not overly formally religious to start with, and in any case I don't regard any "second coming" as a critical portion of leading a religious life, or the prospect of it as any reason to change what I do. As someone once said, if the Lord comes that night, he wanted to be found doing his job. That being said, it never hurts to live your life as though you may be called to account for it at any time. In many ways other than religious, you often are anyway.

It is important to note that not everyone who has read "Left Behind" is necessarily a Bible-is-literal-truth fundamentalist, any more than everyone who has read Michael Moore is a leftist psycho hose beast.

I fully expect this planet and universe to be plugging along thousands of years from now, hopefully thoroughly infested with my descendants. HA! Fear my gene pool!

I ran into few literal fundamentalists back in the Midwest, and surprisingly, most of them at college.
