I heard an urban legend / piece of gossip / bald face lie that liquid breathing is a fully developed technology and with this technology it is possible for people to dive to enormous depths. The urban legend tells that this technology was developed along with the Glomar Explorer for recovering Soviet nuclear weapons technology from the deep ocean. It is commonly known that a Soviet ballistic missile submarine sank in the deep ocean. Supposably this liquid breathing technology was used to recover SLBM hardware including RVs and thermonuclear weapons. It's a nice yarn and almost as good as the Aurora myths. I believe the movie "The Abyss" was based upon this urban legend.
