In my opinion, a boost phase missile defense system would be superior to any other.

The reason is simply that there is NO POSSIBLE WAY to hide the boost phase, nor to deploy decoys. It is also impossible to harden the booster itself without prohibitive weight increase. A small hole in a liquid fuel tank, perferation of a sold fuel casing, and the missile is useless. The only thing it can do is fall back on the people who fired it.
