I hear the story about how all the wonderful technology has given us leisure time our ancestors never dreamed of. But sometimes I wonder.

My great-grandparents did needlework, hand-built furniture for fun, sewed decorated clothes, and spent a lot of time in recreational activities with family. In an Indian museum I saw on my travels around the West, I saw marvelous leather items decorated with hundreds of thousands of beads in elaborate pattersn, complex carvings in wood and bone, intricate paintings, and many other things that must have taken hundreds of hours to complete. Not bad for a society living off the land.
