At the end of WWII, Canada had the 3rd largest Navy on Earth. They also had highly capable Army and Air Force personnel, well equipped and with excellent leadership. Today, Canada's military is smaller than the New York City police department. Like Canada, Western European countries would rather spend money on social welfare programs than their military. The world isn't always a nice place. When bad things happen, who are you going to call, a welfare bureaucrat or the military? Who has a military that can be called upon?
