Look, the media took this one question and answer--out of context, by the way--and shat on Rumsfeld for a week with it.
Over the past week or so I have posted documents, articles, press conferences, and the like showing the actual situation, the supply issues, the technical issues, the hard numbers, and the fact that the military has been ramping up on this for months probably as fast as a bureaucratic pile like the military can. You have no idea how many rules have been changed and how many corners have been cut to speed up the process on this issue.
You see, that's all complicated, and not nearly as satisfying at the idea the Rumsfeld would ignore the whole thing just because he's such an unmitigated bastard and hates the troops. After all, with Ashcroft gone, he and Bush are pretty much the only fat targets left for furious Democrats to shoot at, aren't they?
If only Kerry had been elected president. No doubt whatever god he selected for Secretary of Defense would simply have waved his hand, and all the armor supply issues, retrofits, design alterations, and other issues would have been swept aside in one stroke.
