I should clarify that the position that we should never have started this war in the first place is at least arguable. I don't agree, and believe that shoving it off for another ten years like we did last time would only have been worse, but it's still arguable.

It's the constant bitching about how somehow it could have been done "better," especially when the bitchers don't want to deal with the details of exactly what "better" would entail.

Also, it would help to keep in mind some perspective on "levels of suffering." This is probably the least-harmful war ever fought in human history, both to our troops and to the nation we are fighting in, and the idea that an average of about 2 American military casualties a day is some kind of bloody rout doesn't stand up very well.
