re: I agree, the sooner there are humans on other planets the better.

I just hope that the "local inhabitants" of the planets (any "life" including microbes) will not object :-)

"The only practical defense against that sort of natural disaster is locating the human race on as many different worlds as possible, e.g. colonize Mars. We human beings need to have greater respect for the random destructive power of nature.

I have expressed my opinion as to WHY the natural disasters are becoming more destructive, but that is another story.

What I would like to see is a "brainstorming" BBS or discussion group (perhaps in conjunction with the habitable zone) where various "ideas" about humans getting to and traveling in space would be discussed and scrutinized.
The ideas and discussions should focus mainly on four basic categories.

1) The most economical way to get into space.
2) How to accelerate the space ship to the highest speed possible with the use of smallest possible quantity of fuel.
3) How to survive long trips in space
4) What to do when the destination is reached and how to survive there.

Imaginative ideas that could be explained, tested, and proven would be very valuable in the construction of "new" spaceships.
