...I will be as pleased to see Cuba return to a multi-party democracy as I was to see the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the USSR. I look forward to witnessing similar events in China during my lifetime.
David, just because someone's political views are left of center, doesn't mean that they support a Communist dictatorship.
Frankly though, I think we've made terrific mistake with Cuba. Had we dropped our economic blockade and encouraged a vigorous cultural exchange, Cuba would have gone the way of Moscow a long time ago. It would probably be the most thriving democracy in all of Central America today. But political pandering here is the U.S. has left Cuba isolated all these years, effectively keeping Castro in power. One hopes we and the Cubans are ready for the day he departs.
