The sort of misconception which precludes a reality-based mindset.

Democrat (left) = communist.

Ain't so.

And if one wants to get even farther afield,

Democrat (left) = communist, meaning pro-dictatorship, forgetting that communism is an economic system.

Kinda tough to deal effectively with reality when one bases their beliefs upon misconceptions. I think we'd all agree on that.
