It's true that ESA hasn't been able to show us live rocket launches the way NASA or even Boeing have, on the internet. Europeans space fans realize this very well.
The Huygens landing was the first time a ESA built spacecraft landed on another world with a very short time between the event taking place and the information arriving and for a short term mission.
Having a budget I believe ten times lower than NASA's, the ESA certainly hasn't given a big thought on PR (perhaps consecrating the money for science) as NASA has. This was a punctual event and the ESA certainly thought it wasn't worth investing that much in PR (there is no ESA TV for the general public for instance) as it would not have been needed on a continuous basis. Some have said Euronews was the only public channel showing something live. Euronews is not NASATV and there are many moments wit no comments and just the image (many space fans do praise Euronews precisely because it does show space related pictures while others simply won't).
The bottomline though is that science has been produced and shared (perhaps not as fast as wished but it has been shared).
