Spirit Pillow examples?

pepperite and or volcanic turbidites?

reworked subaqueous volcanics with igneous intrusion into wet sediments? Note the central layer that is not finely layered. The fine layered stuff looks fluvial, not aeolian.

pillow crust eroding, right foreground. Pillow hummocks, background.

inclined pillows with vessicles/amygdules or volcanic pyroclasts embedded? If these are clasts, they seem to have been well mixed in, not cratered in, which could have happenned in a semimolten or subaqueous rapid flow state.

a broken pillow?

a field of weathered pillows?

more hard pillows?

And finally, to go over the top...
a mid ocean ridge? just kidding - but hey, these rocks do seem to slope in both directions from the ridge. Maybe it's not such a crazy idea. Maybe the entire Columbia hills are a subaqueous volcanic complex formed within a flooded Gusev? Said flood being to short to deposit a great deal in the crater floor, and subsequent erosion stripping that. There are those great big channels entering Gusev. The impact would certainly have generated some volcanics, somewhat like at Sudbury, Ontario, where impact induced hydrothermal and volcanic activity continued for quite some time. Perhaps these eruptions could have continued to the point where they were subaqueous? Hydrothermal deposits? Gold in them thar hills?
