What do you think of SkyCrane JimO?

Hi All

Gary's favorite hobby-horse is the sure doom of the rather comical Sky Crane lander for the MSL. To me the idea of SkyCrane sounds totally nuts, especially since there has to be better alternatives - say a beefier airbag? Or rapid-deployed balloons that suspend the system instead of a goofy rocket-lifter that's could sputter catastropically.

Ideas?
