re: Don't let Phil hear you say that

I did say we have a serious problem with extremist Muslims right now, mostly issuing from the Wahabbi sect, and it is very widespread.

See also here.

But it is important to realize that the current crisis does not mean that the Muslim religion cannot eventually evolve out of this just like the Christian religion did.

The belief that Arabs (or anyone else) are just not culturally able to handle concepts like democracy* is opposed by those like the current administration (and others, not just conservatives by any means) who believe that a longing for freedom is inherent in the human condition.

This is the gap between those who think democracy cannot be exported, and those who think it can. There are arguable subdivisions to this, too. A lot of reasonable people believe in exporting the idea of democracy, but don't like the idea of involving the military. Others point out that a lot of democratic nations ended up that way only after a bloody fight.

*I'm using this word as a shorthand for a lot of factors. Hopefully, it won't get me in trouble later.
