So anyone protesting civilian targets rather than military ones is a neo-Nazi? That would almost be funny if it weren't such a sad misrepresentation of my position. Dresden was a population center pure and simple. No Saddam or Hitler was lurking in the city. No tank divisions, aircraft factories or munitions centers. It was also the only thing the British could reliably reach and destroy. It was an easy target. It's like beating up someone's kids.
War is hell and that's the way things go. I'm not going to be pinned by either "German guilt" nor am I going to rewrite history and say the Nazis were sweethearts. The truth is often rewritten by the victor in any conflict and I have enough tales about both sides from first hand sources to know that neither side always fights clean.
Had I been Truman I wouldn't have authorized bombing Hiroshima. Had I been Churchill I wouldn't have authorized bombing Dresden. There were genuine military targets awaiting destruction even if reaching them would have been harder. Those two were bombed simply because they were convenient.
War crime, immoral, whatever one wants to call it, it's the hypocrisy of wanting a status quo with Saddam Hussein and crying crocodile tears for 1500 US soldiers killed while serving and then wishing to re-firebomb some marching neo-Nazis, who are mainly poverty-case east-German kids raised on Socialist-think by the leftists and who naturally lean anti-west and expect everything to be given to them. I don't recall hearing much about neo-Nazis before reunification. That's because almost all these neo-Nazis are leftist raised East Germans. I'm half-German. I should know. The leftist mentality with its "superficial righteousness" lends itself to irrational acts and hatred of others.
Just as Don can so easily espouse the murder of neo-Nazis, even if in partial-jest. It's that mentality of disrespecting human life, any human life, that leads to eternal cycles of violence. We have to rise above prejudice or dislike of someone's belief system, no matter how warped. The Jihadists believe wholeheartedly in the immorality of our culture and beliefs. To them we are morally bankrupt and deserving of death. Isn't Don basically saying the same thing? Morally bankrupt folks deserve to die?
Maybe I just misread it. Maybe he wanted to firebomb them with peace literature and some history pamphlets?
