I read an article about serious coal shortages in China, resulting in many power blackouts. Can't locate it easily right now--the search engines are swamped by news of 203 Chinese dying in a mining accident.

While it might give less-perceptive environmentalists hives, the hydroelectric and nuclear reactor projects in China are probably the best thing they can do under the circumstances, and more perceptive environmentalists will see that as well.
