A lot of folks (right wing folks) responded in this thread in a wildly defensive manner (though Tom seemed to get it). Now if you are American, I guess you can interpret it as a slam at Americans and be defensive about that.

But it seemed more like the right-wingers thought I was saying they were somehow responsible for these whacky poll results. So why the sense of ownership?
